The school formerly known as Dutton's Dancing School was started in 1916 in Birkenhead, England by James Herbert Dutton and his wife Hannah. The school was continued by their granddaughter, Jean Dutton in the 1940s. Jean's family then moved to Australia in 1964 and opened up a school (still known as Dutton's Dancing School) in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, moving later to Chelsea in 1978, which was then run by Jean and her daughter Jeanette.

Since 2007, the school has been known as Art Evolutions Dance School and is now run by Jeanette's daughter and James' great great granddaughter, Jessica.

Jessica started dancing at the age of 3, not surprising due to her family's history in dance. Jessica has studied under the teaching of her mother and grandmother and has achieved her teaching qualifications with the Australian Academy of Theatrical and Ballet Dancing Inc. as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching at the University of Melbourne.
